Police tape surrounds a Wal-Mart that was the scene of a deadly stampede.

A Wal-Mart worker died after being trampled when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island store Friday morning, police and witnesses said.

The 34-year-old employee, a temporary maintenance worker, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m.

Witnesses said the surging throngs of shoppers knocked the man down. He fell and was stepped on. As he gasped for air, shoppers ran over and around him.

CAUGHT ON CAMERA: WAL-MART CROWD MOMENTS BEFORE DEADLY STAMPEDE
"He was bum-rushed by 200 people," said Jimmy Overby, 43, a co-worker. "They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too...I literally had to fight people off my back."

The unidentified victim was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:03 a.m., police said.

The cause of death wasn't immediately available pending results of an autopsy.

A 28-year-old pregnant woman was knocked to the floor during the mad rush. She was hospitalized for observation, police said. Early witness accounts that the woman suffered a miscarriage were unfounded, police said.

Three other shoppers suffered minor injuries, cops said.

Wal-Mart spokesman Dave Tovar called the incident a "tragic situation."

"The safety and security of our customers and associates is our top priority," Tovar said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families at this difficult time."

Before police shut down the store, eager shoppers streamed past emergency crews as they worked furiously to save the store clerk's life.

"They were working on him, but you could see he was dead, said Halcyon Alexander, 29. "People were still coming through."

Only a few stopped.

"They're savages," said shopper Kimberly Cribbs, 27. "It's sad. It's terrible."

You know that New York has a diverse population rosco so that should come as no surprise to you..lol

I rather enjoyed my stay in New York and the people being of mixed cultures didn't bother me at all. The only thing I didn't like was the smog. I'm used to cleaner air from Florida I guess but I was coughing like crazy while I was there. As soon as we got out of the city I stopped coughing. But I suppose I could get used to it if I had reason enough to live there.

That's an awful tragedy at Wal-Mart.

Tyler, I have only been to new York airport, but i could see how bad the smog was..

When we lived in California, smog was so bad, and that was in the sixties,I can't imagine now, how bad it is..

I cannot fathom the madness to shop, and endanger ones life on Black Friday..

Love bugs are the curse of some school in Florida that developed them to eat mosquitos, they consist of super glue and hormones. A friend in New York complained about them also, they are everywhere. They swarm to anything white here.

Now your ladybugs Rosco are a different thing I sure didn't know they swarmed. To bad you don't have the arial planes spraying like we do plus the road trucks spraying, I use a spray called High Yield, ..mix 4 tablespoons per quart of water..add 4 table spoons Liquid Downy Fabric softener and one tablespoon mineral oil. This spray repels flys , skeeters and even termites , great for dogs , if used on horses leave out the mineral oil.
For snakes I sprinkle the yard with lime and on the river side use moth balls and a 22...lol

We used to have "Lovebugs" real bad here in the 80's but not Ladybugs, the Lovebugs are not as bad anymore. Are we talking about the same thing or did you mean Lovebugs rosco? You'll still get them on your car if you drive on the interstate thou, but not nearly as bad as it used to be. As far as "swarming" goes, it appears sometimes like they do, but I don't think its intentional really, more like they are born together and they seem to go to the same places....at least the two mating are that much is certain..lmao

I wasn't aware they were developed in Florida, I thought they were a natural curse from God..Worker dies at Long Island Wal-Mart after being trampled in Black Friday stampede 503179

Tyler the reason you don't have them is they are all in Louisiana , we get them twice a year, I spray my truck lights and bumper and hood with Pam and use a plastic pot scrubber on the windshield, little bastards are full of super glue. santa
