Tide's Ingram suddenly a frontrunner in one Heisman poll
By Don Kausler Jr. -- The Birmingham News

On his way to running for a Bryant-Denny Stadium-record 246 yards, Alabama running back Mark Ingram (22) breaks away from South Carolina free safety Chris Culliver (17) and linebacker Josh Dickerson (41) in the second quarter of the Crimson Tide's 20-6 homecoming victory. (The Birmingham News / Mark Almond)TUSCALOOSA -- In one week, Alabama sophomore running back Mark Ingram has gone from off the chart to the frontrunner of a respected Heisman Trophy poll.

That's what one 246-yard rushing performance can do for a player in a year in which there seems to be no clear favorite for college football's top individual award.

In a poll of 13 Heisman Trophy voters released today on Heismanpundit.com, Ingram received four first-place votes and 48 points.

Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner, received six first-place votes, but he received only 45 points. Notre Dame quarterback received the other first-place vote and ranks third with 19 points.

Here are the complete results of the poll, which award five points for a first-place vote, four for a second-place vote, etc.

1. Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama-48 (4)

2. Tim Tebow, QB, Florida-45 (6)

3. Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame-19 (1)

4. Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska-14

5. Tony Pike, QB, Cincinnati-13 (1)

6. Case Keenum, QB, Houston-11

7. Colt McCoy, QB, Texas-10

8. Golden Tate, WR, Notre Dame-9 (1)

9. Jacquizz Rodgers, RB, Oregon State-7

10. Kellen Moore, QB, Boise State-6
