Those (like me) who think Senators who support Obamacaid may pay a political price can see some vindication in Harry Reid's plummeting poll figures.Reid has been the Senator from Nevada for over 20 years,is the incumbent candidate in their upcoming elections, and is highly successful. After all,he IS the "Senate Majority Leader" isn't he? So why is political newcomer, Republican Sue Lowden, beating him 60% to 40% in the polls? Why do 1 1/2 times as many voters prefer the newbie? In my humble opinion, the Senators will NOT commit political suicide like Reid has and get behind legislation the people hate. According to Dick Morris, Nancy Pelosi could not care less about the political future of her Senate colleagues (she is Speaker Of The House} or their careers, but I'll guarandamntee you THEY do. Pelosi is gleaming and beaming over this huge Tupperware bowl full of horseshit she pushed through the House, but the Senators don't give a damn about HER political future either and I think will (oh how horrible!) vote how the people want them to. I fully understand Roscoe's admonition "We don't know what is in the final version yet,so wait and see". I understand that, but I also understand this: For a government plan to work,it would require massive funding, compulsory participation by every worker and employer, and reduced healthcare for the masses. The notion that we can add millions of patients at a lesser cost and provide adequate care is idiotic and only believed by those who can't do simple arithmatic. So the Senators tweak the details to reduce penalties for non-participation,fudge the numbers, hide the added taxes, gut Social Security, and employ the "doctor's fix" to get the still absurd final figure below a trillion. The Dems proposed a huge program and are now cutting it's legs off and sewing it's mouth shut. Again,I could be wrong, but I don't think the Senators will vote for a huge, legless, dying elephant with a BIG appetite. That is what any compromise bill would look like and I doubt that 85% of the American people, now adequately insured, can be persuaded to buy it and feed it. Would you?

Thanks for the kind words. Oddly, I never cared much about politics until I started posting on the net about 4-5 years ago. I certainly never gave a damn about Bush or any political party until I started reading the most absurd nonsense being posted on the boards at IYT. With some undeserved hubris,I like to think of myself as a defender of the truth rather than the defender of any particular ideology. Ever hear of a "conservative" who is an atheist, supports the legalization of pot, abortion rights, de-criminalization of prostitution, and the 18 year old vote? I'm also, obviously,an enthusiastic smartass.
