A big Australian native who is the top-ranked junior college football prospect in the nation has committed to Alabama.

Jesse Williams, a 6-foot-4, 330-pound defensive lineman from Arizona Western Community College in Yuma, Ariz., said Sunday that he plans to play for the Crimson Tide.

Williams made his official visit to Alabama this weekend. He picked Alabama over LSU, Oklahoma State, Oregon State and Ole Miss.

He plans to enroll in January at Alabama, where he will two years of eligibility over a three-year period.

"Jesse was always very high on Alabama and the visit to Tuscaloosa just cemented those views," Steve Box, Williams' mentor, told BamaOnline.com. "Throughout the process I was impressed with the diligence, focus and commitment of the Bama staff in recruiting Jesse."

Box was Williams' Australian football coach.

"It is an amazing achievement for a young man from Australia," Box told the website. "For me to see him grow up from a 14-year old to reach this level is fantastic. I know the Crimson Tide have expanded their fan base to a whole new continent now."
