2 lbs. of fresh and raw peanuts that are still in their shells
2 tablespoons of salt
1 bag of Zatarain's Crab and Shrimp Boil
1 tablespoon of red pepper (or more, if you are feeling lucky)

Place the peanuts in a large pot and add enough water to cover them and almost fill the pot.
Add the salt and stir it real well.
Turn the stove to the high heat setting and cover until it boils.
Add the Zatarain's and the red pepper.
Reduce the heat just enough to keep it from boiling over.
Boil the peanuts for 4 hours. Add water as needed to keep the peanuts covered.
Drain the peanuts and serve.

Speaking of Boiled Peanuts (which I love) my brother made a batch 2 days ago and I'm eating some now. Its a simpled down version fron the recipe above. Just salt and red pepper flakes. Love these things anyway you cook them. I grew up eating boiled peanuts. They were always for sale all over this town and still are. I started cooking my own peanuts in the 80's. As you might can tell I am very passionate about my boiled peanuts. Its a Religion.

In our FFA club in Highschool we grew our own peanuts in the big garden we had, and after we harvested them (picked them and put them in a bucket) we had a ton of peanuts. All the students in the Agricultural debt had to pick peanuts and add it to the trailer that was pulled by our tractor. Everyone had to pick peanuts or failed class. In fact, picking the peanuts was considered our final examine for that semester. You think I'm kidding? I'm not, its the truth. You either picked peanuts or you failed the class or got a low score.

We has a big boiled Peanut sale to raise money for the FFA. A guy/friend that was in the FFA had a big iron pot for cooking outside, he actually lived on a ranch and his family was rich. He brought the big pot to school so we could cook the peanuts. Several guys stayed up all night to watch the pot as there was a fire underneath it. Good times I remember well. :)

Anyway, everyone in school and class was walking around with a bag of boiled peanuts.. lol

The way I eat them is you pop the entire boiled peanut in your mouth, then you crack it open with your teeth letting the juices exploded and then you drink the juice, then you pull the peanut out of your mouth and break the rest of it open with your fingers, and then pull the peanuts out of the shell with your teeth and eat them. Thats the southern way to eat them. But everyone has there own way. Thats how I do it.

Thinking about at my Highschool years in AG class, our teacher was a black guy named "smitty" at least thats what we called him. I think it was his real name but not sure. Anyway, he was a great funny guy and very nice. But one day I came to class late and he was in the middle of telling everyone he wasn't going to tolerate people being late and if they were for now on they would get a paddling from his paddle stick he had. It was my first class every morning at 7:30. Well, I walked into the middle of that discussion and he looked at me with a very funny face expression and said come up here and receive your punishment. I said what? I'm rarely ever late but whatever Smitty, if you want to hit me go right ahead, everyone in the class laughed. Smitty did too. It was all really innocent and family orientated. We were a group and family in the FFA and AG dept. So I took my lick after removing my can of copenhagen snuff from my back pocket, and went and sat down. It was all in fun, he didn't hit hard, just stung a little..lol

I don't dip snuff anymore, but in highschool to be cool with the croud I was in,, I did. I continued it a few years after highschool, then eventually quit.

We love the very spicy peanuts, I even add extra seasoning to spice them up. The Virginia raw peanuts are the best to use especially the jumbo ones...

Rosco I have never heard of frying peanuts, can you ask someone how it is done and what seasonings are used.

I was in Hammond yesterday at the mall. I think you are referring to wasabi , those little suckers will light your mouth on fire, some kind of oriental bean. There is a wasabi sauce you eat with sushi.

they are not home made, some guy has brought some store bought ones, in a clear package, to me it looks like something u would see in a gas station store, the bag is small, i have never even heard of fryed peanuts till he brought these, but they are pretty good, i imagine eating the shell has lots of bulk fiber, lol...its been a couple of months ago, im not even sure who brought them, i think he left them out on the table so i ate a few, but it was a small bag.. they were not cheap for the size of the bag,

Hope you like them!

I found they need to boil all day and soak all night if you use peanuts from a bag. The store ones in a bag take longer to cook. But fresh Green ones you get can get done in a day.

We have a Farmers Market here in town that is only open on weekends and has a fresh produce section and they have the jumbo green peanuts. I'm going to try those sometime. Lately I been using bagged raw peanuts from Winn Dixie. They work just fine, but it takes a day of cooking and adding water and soaking all night then start cooking them again the next morning to get them done.

I just got some boiled peanuts from Winn dixie today already made. They are hot and spicy boiled peanuts. Very good. I'm going to start getting those. I forget the name of the company that makes them but they sell them at our Winn Dixie.

Gypsy did you ever have boiled peanuts yet? I been eating them all my life. I don't shell them first like rosco said he did, I pop the whole peanut shell and all in my mouth and crack it open with my teeth. Then open the shell and eat the peanuts. When you do it my way the peanut explodes with all the juice that are in the peanut shell and you get all the flavor and seasoning from boiling them. In this care at Winn Dixie they are already cooked and ready to be eaten. I have a big bag right now in the frig. I been eating them all day..lol

We have places that sell boiled peanuts year round they are little roadside stands. Those are the best. But Winn Dixie is selling them now so it convenient to get them there. They are good ones they sell but actually the small peanut stands are the best. The farmers grow the peanuts here in FL and have there own way of doing it. Actually, I have never had a boiled peanut I didn't like. lol

Wash and let totally dry fresh peanuts in the shell.
Using good quality peanut oil, heat it to about the same as you would fry chicken in. Using a basket lower the peanuts in and fry 8-10 minutes.
Remove drain well, sprinkle salt and any of your favorite seasonings on them.
We are doing Tony's..Hickory smoke, and a cheese( kinda like the powdered popcorn cheese you buy). We have experimented with a light misting of vinegar and salt, kids loved that one but be careful not to over soak the shell, it should remain crisp. It is recommended to NOT eat every shell, but one out of every three.
