So much for the speculation that the Alabama football team would be at the top of the first Bowl Championship Series standings of the 2011 college football season.

The standings are out, and LSU stands in the top spot.

Alabama is rated No. 2, followed by Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Boise State.

The margin is slim. LSU's average is .9522. Alabama's is .9519.

Earlier today, the USA Today coaches' poll had Oklahoma, LSU and Alabama rated 1-2-3, the same spots they've been in recent weeks.

In the Associated Press poll, LSU remained No. 1, followed by Alabama and Oklahoma.

LSU pays a Nov. 5 visit to Bryant-Denny Stadium, and Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will meet on Dec. 3.
