Q: "my group has to defend walmart for a debate on human rights. Its hard as too many sources trash walmart. However, does anyone know any way to turn all the arguements around such as sweatshops to either make walmart look good or not guilty. Thank you."

A: "WalMart simply provides what people demand: Good products at low prices. When people start demanding good products at low prices made in good working conditions, WalMart will find and sell them. WalMart is not in the business of improving working conditions for anyone anywhere. It's up to the consumer"

(I would like to add this to my answer: If Walmart employees don't like their wages at WM, get another job or quit and sit.)

I think some people disapprove of Walmart buying products to sell to the consumer from places that mistreat there employees in the manufacturing of it, sweatshops, etc. People feel that Walmart is promoting that kind of mistreatment by being part of it by buying there products. Keeping them in business. Much like a person that buys illegal drugs is no better than the drug dealer attitude. If no one bought the drug dealers drugs he would be out of business.

I think everyone understands why Walmart does it because its good business for them, its the moral implications of there actions that is in question by the public.

Oh, I'm fully aware of the dissatisfaction some people have with WM's purchasing ethics, but I question those who stir up trouble for WM. After all, can't we vote with our feet? Why would anyone impose moral standards on WM's purchasing agents? To improve the lot of people who need and depend on our purchases? Do we believe for one second that those poor workers will welcome the loss of a good customer that buys in the thousands of units (and the loss of their jobs)? Will moralizing improve their lot in life? Improving worker conditions worldwide is a noble ambition, but I resent organizations that will do that at my expense. I'm an American; I want good stuff as cheap as I can get it.

I agree the workers want Walmart to buy the products because if they don't they will be out of a job. Even though there working conditions are bad and are perhaps being mistreated, they would still rather be working.

Walmart has probably come to the conclusion that most people just want the lowest price they can get and could care less where they get the products. So Walmart realizes that they will make more profit by staying the coarse and ignoring those that disaprove. All Walmart cares about is profit, like most businesses do. They understand that the majority of Americans all they care about is the lowest price they can get. Walmart has weighted the difference between not buying products at low prices from places that mistreat there employees to satisfy those that disprove, to buying from them anyway. They understand most people just want the lowest price so they stay the coarse.
