If you’re one of those folks who thinks President Obama is a “disappointment,” you haven’t been paying attention the last few years. And those of you who try to draw comparisons with the Bush Administration should put away the hallucinogens and have your memory checked. If you were in a coma for the eight Bush Years, I apologize and forgive you. But please join the real world. So far, this president has done most of what he said he would do if elected; imagine what he could have done by now if progressives had supported him and not given him a Congress that doesn’t look at him as if he’s the demon seed.

Not only is he NOT a “disappointment,” he’s pretty much the opposite. And no, I don’t just say that because he took out Osama bin Laden, helped Libya determine their own destiny for the first time in a while, and because he seems able to handle international incidents without starting a new war. The guy does nearly everything we elect a president to do, and he doesn’t brag about it constantly.

Is he perfect? No, he’s human. Does he deserve some criticism? I suppose, but I must admit I haven’t seen any complaints that were of based on anything having to do with the real world. One I can’t forgive him for is pulling Janet Napolitano out of Arizona. But the thing is, on balance, he’s mostly stellar. Besides, criticism about certain specific problems is one thing; taking on an overall “Obama sucks” meme not only has the potential to put Willard Romney into power, it’s also a lie. Just because you wanted a president who would give you a glitter-farting unicorn and didn’t quite get that doesn’t mean he’s not doing well at the job we hired him for.

What follows is a PARTIAL list of Obama’s accomplishments so far. Unlike many such lists, there is a link to a citation supporting every single one.

Legislative Prowess

Despite the characterizations of some, Obama’s success rate in winning congressional votes on issues was an unprecedented 96.7% for his first year in office. Though he is often cited as superior to Obama, President Lyndon Johnson’s success rate in 1965 was only 93%. http://n.pr/i3d7cY

One Response to A LONG List of President Obama’s Accomplishments! With Citations!

One of the first things President Obama did was restore full Social Security benefits (which had previously been slashed) to the seriously ill/disabled. If you recall, the former cuts had resulted in the disabled/ill becoming one of the fastest-growing groups of homeless people in America, and they don’t tend to have a good survival rate on the streets. To me, this spoke volumes about President Obama’s integrity and human decency. The second most significant thing (at least, so far) is that he is the first president since the 1970s who has not directly harmed the poor. Considering the Dem Party leadership, which has repeatedly offered up the poor as a sacrifice in hopes of appeasing Republicans, this is a life-saving change.

Most of the debt inherited.. when Repug congressmen get up and say they will do anything to keep this president from doing what is good for this country is a sad thing, how can anyone support the kind of republicans we now have in office, they sit back and let this country go to hell in a hand basket. the eight years of bush/cheney
we have now a very intelligent, caring president, that if he had the working congress we need we could be on the big road to recovery, more than we already are.
I and most people put the blame on the repugs. for the state our country is in and two wars really put us in trouble..

Here we go again 3 1/2 years still blaming Bush, you people are a broken record, you can't admit Obama has us in worst shape now than we were.. Your answer is to keep throwing money down the drain, squeeze out the oil industry, destroy the middle class businesses, and double the food stamp recipients, welcome millions of illegals and pull an executive order for the most ridiculous reasons. I call that having your head stuck in the sand. But then again closing your eyes keeps you blind to the truth. It doesn't matter what Republicans want, Dums beat it any way to give Obammy his way and keep sending checks to China to sign.

you can't admit your wrong, Congress has us in the worse shape, because they don't work with the sitting president.they did nothing when bush was prez and they still are, doing nothing.and you think Romney will do better??, no he won't, he will do exactly what bush did take us back, you being a woman should see that the repugs are not for us or anyone but the wealthy.. we are moving FORWARD. it took eight years to get us in this bad shape, it will take more than four to get us out,and Romney doesn't have the key, to do it, he is so out of touch with reality, just like all republicans are.

You Dems are blind, it has only taken Obammy 3 1/2 years to screw up everything, no progress, no light at the end of the tunnel, only more spending, he himself admits Washington still feels like it did 4 years ago, so what has he done nothing besides waste money and the integrity and reputation of the US.

An Obama Spending Spree? Hardly (CHART)

Sahil Kapur May 23, 2012, 6:03 AM 48982

A dominant theme of the national political discourse has been the crushing spending spree the U.S. has ostensibly embarked on during the Obama presidency. That argument, ignited by Republicans and picked up by many elite opinion makers, has infused the national dialogue and shaped the public debate in nearly every major budget battle of the last thee years.

But the numbers tell a different story.

The fact that the national debt has risen from $10.6 trillion to $15.6 trillion under Obama’s watch makes for easy partisan attacks. But the vast bulk of the increase was caused by a combination of revenue losses due to the 2008-09 economic downturn as well as Bush-era tax cuts and automatic increases in safety-net spending that were already written into law.

Obama’s policies, including the much-criticized stimulus package, have caused the slowest increase in federal spending of any president in almost 60 years, according to data compiled by the financial news service MarketWatch.

The chart shows that Presidents Reagan, both Bushes, and to a lesser extent Clinton, grew federal spending at a far quicker pace than Obama. Part of the reason for the slow growth is that Obama — unlike his Republican and Democratic predecessors — signed a law in February 2010 necessitating that new spending laws are paid for. In addition, Obama last year signed into law over $2 trillion in debt-reduction over the next decade.

Republicans argue that safety-net spending has crossed a critical threshold in recent years and Obama has been unwilling to address it. The two sides have jousted over who is to blame but the President has put hundreds of billions in cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security on the table in deals that have been derailed, thanks in no small part to the GOP’s resistance to raising new tax revenues to help bridge the budget shortfall.

But that hasn’t quelled the attacks. Last week, Obama’s likely Republican opponent Mitt Romney accused Obama of lighting a “prairie fire” of spending and said he “added almost as much debt as all the prior presidents combined.

How Much U.S. Debt Does China Really Own?
From Tom Murse
.How Much U.S. Debt Does China Really Own?

http://usgovinfo.about.com/od/moneymatters/ss/How-Much-US-Debt-Does-China-Own.htm

.The U.S. debt was more than $14.3 trillion during the so-called debt crisis of 2011, when the level of borrowing reached its statutory limit and the president warned of a potential default if the cap wasn't raised.

See also: 5 Presidents Who Raised the Debt Ceiling

So who owns all that U.S. debt?

About 32 cents for every dollar of U.S. debt, or $4.6 trillion, is owned by the federal government in trust funds, for Social Security and other programs such as retirement accounts, according to the U.S. Department of Treasury.

China and U.S. Debt
The largest portion of U.S. debt, 68 cents for every dollar or about $10 trillion, is owned by individual investors, corporations, state and local governments and, yes, even foreign governments such as China that hold Treasury bills, notes and bonds.

Foreign governments hold about 46 percent of all U.S. debt held by the public, more than $4.5 trillion. The largest foreign holder of U.S. debt is China, which owns more about $1.2 trillion in bills, notes and bonds, according to the Treasury.

In total, China owns about 8 percent of publicly held U.S. debt. Of all the holders of U.S. debt China is the third-largest, behind only the Social Security Trust Fund's holdings of nearly $3 trillion and the Federal Reserve's nearly $2 trillion holdings in Treasury investments, purchased as part of its quantitative easing program to boost the economy.

Criticism of China Owning U.S. Debt
To put China's ownership of U.S. debt in perspective, its holding of $1.2 trillion is even larger than the amount owned by American households. U.S. citizens hold only about $959 billion in U.S. debt, according to the Federal Reserve.

Other large foreign holders of U.S. debt include Japan, which owns $912 billion; the United Kingdom, which owns $347 billion; Brazil, which holds $211 billion; Taiwan, which holds $153 billion; and Hong Kong, which owns $122 billion.

See also: Debt Ceiling History

Some Republicans have expressed concern over the amount of U.S. debt owned by China. Republican U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, a 2012 presidential hopeful, joked that when it came to the debt "Hu's your daddy," a reference to Chinese President Hu Jintao.

Despite such joking, the truth is the bulk of the $14.3 trillion U.S. debt - $9.8 trillion in all - is owned by the American people and its government.

That's the good news.

The bad news?

That's still a lot of IOUs.

So worried about Bain, but you ignored the list of US companies with foreign ties. I guess any hope is better than none to make Obama look good. Just think if he wins , look at the mess he inherits and he can't blame Bush any more.

no I didn't ignore anything your biggest spenders were republican president's
the republican congress never whined when bush spent 5.6 trillion surplus that Clinton left, charged two wars to America 's Credit card that Obama is having to pay for. again George and republicans are mostly the blame for this catastrophe. Obama has moved us forward these 31/2 years with no help from congress.. Bush will go down in history as our worse president. republican congress is at an all time low on popularity with the people.

Obama jobs chief -- the CEO of GE -- pays no corporate taxes
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/theoval/post/2011/03/obama-jobs-chief----the-ceo-of-ge----pays-no-corporate-taxes/1

By David Jackson, USA TODAY Updated 2011-03-25 4:28 PM
President Obama and Jeffrey ImmeltCAPTIONBy J. Scott Applewhite, APSome corporate embarrassment today for President Obama.

The chairman of the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness -- also the CEO of a billion-dollar company -- paid no corporate taxes in 2010.

General Electric, led by Obama appointee Jeffrey R. Immelt, reported worldwide profits of $14.2 billion last year -- with $5.1 billion coming from U.S. operations -- but had no American tax bill, and claimed a tax benefit of $3.2 billion, The New York Times said.

The Times reported that GE "has been cutting the percentage of its American profits paid to the Internal Revenue Service for years, resulting in a far lower rate than at most multinational companies." The story cited "an aggressive strategy that mixes fierce lobbying for tax breaks and innovative accounting that enables it to concentrate its profits offshore."

White House spokesman Jay Carney said Obama still has confidence in Immelt, and also supports corporate tax reform.

"He's committed to corporate tax reform because it's right for growth, it's right for job creation," Carney said. "And, you know, he will have that conversation going forward."

Hot topic since GE has over 300,000 jobs but only 123,000 in the US and Obama places a CEO in such a high position knowing he is involved in a huge outsourcing .

so this guy leads GE? that means he is the head of GE?

General Electric led by Obama appointee Jeffrey T Immelt

GE didn't pay taxes when bush was president because the bush tax cuts
support them ,like the tax cut did all big corporations. he is trying(Obama) to turn this around, but congress pugs keep filibustering it you need to watch live on the floor of the white house where they vote this stuff as law,

Obama appointed him chairman of the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness in 2010 knowing GE which he is responsible for running was outsourcing jobs. Not a good choice especially when this country is fighting to keep jobs here, nor a good statement for Obama and his concern for keeping jobs here.
