I think I'm going to make the American flag a permanent fixture on this forum, I have another one exactly like the half-mast one you see now that is full mast, and I'll keep it up year round till next memorial day then add the half mast one again. I also have a Florida flag I'm thinking about adding year round to go with the US flag, just because Florida is where this forum is run from, because when you come here you are stepping into Florida. lol I could also add a confederate flag to cover all the southern states. Havent totally made up my mind. Flag half mast! 140282

I been doing some research on flags and learned a lot today, for one thing the correct term for not displaying a flag fully to the top is "half-staff" not half mast, although everyone knows what you mean when you say "half mast", but if you want to use the correct term that is officially what the United States government uses its "Half-staff".

Also, both the US and state flags are required by law to display at half-staff for official government buildings on certain holidays and occasions, including 9-11. But not every year has been the same. Some years the state flags have not been required to go at half-staff and is left up to the state to decide if they want to display there state flag at half-staff, but this year its the law to display the US and the state flag at half-staff until noon. That goes for the general public as well, it is required by law this year if they are displaying a flag in there yards on a pole to display it at half-staff until noon, then they can put it all the way up to the top if they want. To be on the safe side I have decided to leave the flags at half-staff all day today (Memorial day) so there no misunderstandings. lol

Here's some information pertaining to the flag and its rules and regulations:
