I accidentally killed my little e-machine I bought just a year ago. Last weekend I discovered that my 'puter had no "start" button or taskbar and therefore,I couldn't pull up my homepage. I clicked on my IE icon on the left but evrytime I did, the Internet Explorer page would just flash on and disappear. I went to Walmart and bought a new e-machine, an even better one, for the same price, $298.00+tax. I set it up and got back on line (I made #1 again in another chess ladder!) and began to look up things. My problem was the power plug in the back of the stack. It was loose and the computer was constantly being cycled on/off from just slight movements I would make in the room. I think even just loud music was doing this. I had tried every trick I could find until the only thing I had left was a full system recovery. I had even tried command prompt and had a code list but I couldn't get Internet Explorer to function. I have a Windows XP Home Version, Service Pack 3 recovery disk (but no 25 digit product code) so I decided to use it. I didn't know that the disc did NOT include a sound driver. A lesson learned. The instructions said save all documents and settings to a disc. I didn't because I didn't want to drag any problems into the new set-up. Wrong. The recovery worked perfectly but now the computer OS didn't have sound and was stuck with Media player 9. And Internet Exolorer still can't be called up. That must be a physical problem and I can't fix that. IE works just fine on the new computer so the internal modem may be screwed up. I went to e-machines with the model # and got a free download for the sound driver and it worked. I did the duct tape fix on the power plug and it's stable. I installed VLC player and it works (for playing video). I installed Real player but it did NOT work so I deleted it. Since I can't get online with the unit,I tried downloading my Windows Media Olayer 11 on a flashplayer and insertinbg it,but that didn't work. I'm gonna try and burn the free download to a disc and see if that will work. The recovery WMP works just fine, but WMP 11 is a little better. I re-installed my digital camera program because the new Windows 7 suite doesn't allow any unsigned programs like XP would and as far as I know, there's no workaround. My new computer won't handle the camera.I'm using my TV as a monitor (with an analog converter I already had) and I'm gonna make this thing my "jukebox" and video editor since it does have Windows Movie Maker. I'm now in the process of converting all 253 of my music vids and what little porn I have to WMP format since VLC will only let me play files in that format for some reason. This is MY long, boring, pointless post of the week. THE END

Very good, an interesting read, not boring or pointless at all.

I sympathize with your puter problems. I learned thru the years that duck-tape can cure many problems. I keep a roll handy at all times, both in my car and house (not the bathroom..lol). I've used it to fix a radiator hose when it cracked, lasted for six months. I've also used it to fix leaks around the house, just put a strip on the leak and presto its fixed.

Sounds like your on top of your PC issues, good luck.

Duck Tape is a wonderful invention, almost better than the computer, in fact, I think it IS a better than the computer. Look at all the thing duck-tape can do, it cures things.

Computers don't cure anything, they just give you headaches.

Since I don't have the 25 digit product key I need to activate Windows at their site, I'll just use the previous unit as a media player and editor and never go online.Since the video driver re-install worked great, I could probably go to e-machine and get a re-install for the internal modem but I won't bother. BTW: "Duck" tape is really the duct tape used by A/C mechanics to install ductwork. There is a "Duck Tape" being sold under that brand name, though.

Yeah I misspelled duct tape. Oh well, you know what I meant.

Your PC issues are unfamiliar to me, I've never gone down the road you're going with e-machines ect,,,

I'm an internet guy, (coding) is my strong point,

rosco however is probably more in tune with your situation, he knows computers pretty good. I'll let rosco take this subject up with you, hes better at hard drives and windows with your kinda situation. I'm totally internet and software.

i would have to check. somethings are still sealed and never opened, but my pc came with all the drivers on seperate disk, drivers were on floppys on my other pcs,, i doubt they sent them on floppys for this pc, since the floppy was not a standard item, but i ordered it with a floppy,, for one it was only 19 bucks more and i had things on floppys i was using when i ordered it. but i know it came with all its drivers.. i still have a box of floppys, i keep, but like u and most ppl i have gone to the usb flashdrive to save things...i have never burnt things to save them, the usb flash drive is so easy,,

i have forgot more than i know. what i miss is when i had my gateway pc, and my first dell, they came with 24/7 free lifetime tech support, and back then they were americans, lol, i used these ppl to death.
to help fix problems but also i used them at tutors to learn things. i lost my internal dial up modem once, it would not take my driver floppy i had, i had the driver, but it would not accept it.some techs had me install drivers off a list on my pc, but they did not work. finally on my 4th tech who knew his shit, had me go to
systems/device manager . he asked me did i see a big yellow question mark, on the list of things, and i said yes, he said click it. i did. he said there was a modem under it wasn't it. i said yes, he said delete that modem. i did , he said ok now put in ur driver floppy it will take it now and that was it.. so i learned not all techs are created equal,, gateway techs even had me go to the gateway sight to download new modem drivers many years ago that raised it from 28.8 to 33. whatever, but that was long ago before i even had cable at my road, i still can give them my old dell number and have free tech support, but i dont use that pc now. its way past its prime..and its so old they probably dont support it, i can use aol techs but they dont support older versions of aol... but i have not had a aol problem in a while, most the time they just tell me the software is corrupted, and have me uninstall aol and reinstall it with the aol disk i have,,

I only started with computers just over two years ago and this new one is my third; an HP and two e-machines. None came with a set-up disc. HP had an internal program image that was available but by the time I got the pc so screwed up, I couldn't get to it. My last unit had "e-power" recovery that was fantastic, but I lost access to that too. The first damn thing I did with this one was to burn a 3 disc full recovery and label it and put it up. I'm hopng when I screw this new one up,which I'm sure I will, it will save me. The device manager on my recovery set-up on my last one says I don't even have an internal modem but I didn't bother downloading one free from e-machines since I only will use the pc here;not on the internet or as a network component. I haven't drank anything since late August and that savings right there paid for the new 'puter. Hmmmm, that reminds me........

I don't believe it!!! Though I had already found a use for my former e-machine, I did a free download for the NIVIDIA driver (ethernet/modem enabler/display driver) and it worked! I now have a fully functional e-machine EL-1200-5W that I just paid $318.99 to replace! Hmmmmmmm. Somehow Tyler, this is your and Roscoe's fault. $318.99 divided by half is $159.50 each. I will accept cashier's checks or Postal MO's only. Please do not send cash. Thanking you in advance, Marc Walraven, 113 Preston Ln., Walterboro, SC, 29488

Checks in the mail, you can count on my part of it in about 2 or 3 days. rosco is on his own, he has to come up with his own money.. lol

I've financed rosco with all his crazy ideas and schemes as long as I'm willing to do. No more of this rosco. If you want a new truck or want to engage in a business deal, you pay for it with your own money. This all ends now. I'm tired of you leaching off me. Take care of your own finances for cryin' out loud, I'm done with giving you anymore money just to satisfy your interests.. lmao

Moon, my payment will come in the form of a cashiers check. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.. lol!
