* Dear Tea Party: You will now get yours 11.10.10
* Letter to a whiny young Democrat 11.03.10
* Your mind, well and nicely blown 10.27.10
* I am outraged! Are you not outraged? 10.20.10

More Mark Morford »

And now, hot on the heels of our recent letter to whiny young Democrats, a loving shout-out to all those moderates and independents, confused conservatives and hard-line Repubs who went just a little more than slightly insane this past election.

To all of you who either flip-flopped your wishy-washy ideals and switched your vote from bluish to reddish this past election because Obama and the lukewarm Dems failed to solve all world problems in 700 days, or because you got yourself so emotionally riled up/mentally watered down by the sexy caveman grunts of the Tea Party that you actually bought the BS line about being "mad as hell" about nothing even remotely coherent.

Here is your grand message: You are hereby wonderfully, thoroughly screwed.

Oh darling, it's so very true. The fun-filled news is, despite all the bluster and rhetoric, thinly veiled racism and rampant Islamophobia on display, the new army of jittery, anti-everything GOP bobbleheads that you just voted into office doesn't care a single iota about you, or your haphazard values, or what you sometimes occasionally stand for. And what's more, deep down, you secretly know it.

Are you slightly offended? Are you scowling and mistrustful of the notion? I'm delighted to hear it. Also: It doesn't really matter.

You don't have to believe me. Just wait until nothing at all is done to service the Tea Party non-agenda, because it's ridiculous and impossible to service. Just wait until you note how there is no actual shrinking of government, no restoring some bogus sepia-toned idealism that never existed, no saving of your job. There is, of course, but one GOP agenda: furthering their personal stranglehold on all things powermad and avaricious.

That's not to say they won't try to tackle some issues. Boehner & Co care very much about nailing down enormous tax cuts for wealthy people, preventing education reform, gridlocking Congress at every turn, denying the fact that seven billion rapacious humans have an effect on climate change, and blocking as much newly available health care for 30 million Americans as possible. And so on.

But truly, the issues themselves don't matter. For what Boehner & Co value most is not so much making any sort of significant change in American culture, but rather, in keeping the anger, the dread, the paranoia alive.

In other words, they care most about keeping you in the lower, plebian castes all riled and blind as long as possible. This way, power lies. This way we find war and military expenditure and all manner of misprision, torture, environmental rape, WMD and homophobia, you name it. Just ask Karl Rove. Hey, it's a platform. It worked for Dubya. Well, sort of.

Perhaps you secretly agree with this assessment, understanding that the Repubs are indeed mostly shmucks, but at least they're shmucks fighting in your corner. Maybe you think the Dems are no better, and it's all a matter of lesser-of-two-evils, a needful balancing of power, that the nation's new rightward tilt serves Obama right for -- what was it again? "Overreaching"? For daring to accomplish in two short years more than any president in six decades? Right.

One thing's certain: the populace remains angry and scared about, well, what we've always been angry and scared about: jobs, a massive deficit, war and terrorism, taxes and drugs, gangs and goons, evil bumps in the night.

But these days, one source of anger trumps all others. We are perhaps most furious about our dysfunctional political system, one that cherishes acrimony over cohesion, backstabbing over unity, bickering over a calm and respectful, unified vision. (Which is a little strange, considering how much Pelosi and the Dems accomplished in two years. It might have been acerbic, but the output was actually sort of stunning. But never mind that now).

Are both parties to blame for this hateful, acerbic tone? Are they equally responsible for the ongoing divisiveness? Sure. To some degree. Then again, no. Not really. Not by a long shot

well i actually did not get much out of that article. what we need to watch now is the tax schedule set to end, obama wants to keep the part for the lower income and middle class, but keep the higher taxes that clinton had go back in to place. but of course the republicans want the lower taxes for everyone.. there is some speculation that obama might sign a temporary continuance of the present tax structure which is lower for all , even the wealth, but we shall see, it will be an interesting 2 years, the republicans will be interesting to watch the old guard republicans vs the tea party part of the republican party, both are having a celebration sunday i think. the tea party rep. wanted to combine them as one, but the old guard as i call it would not go along with that. nothing is going to be pretty . thats for sure. and probably not good for the middle class. the dems have little power now, the best to hope for is gridlock rather than roll back what obama got passed. the republicans have a plan to dismantle the healthcare piece by piece i think though the budget , which is how it got passed, because when kennedy was replaced but a republican there then could be a fillibuster in the senate, the budget cant be filibustered, but doing it through the budget procedure he could not get all he wanted. well anyway, the sparks will fly in january i think is when the fun starts, with the new ppl, in the house and senate. they will do nothing to make obama look good,

well u know what i want, which is what u want, but in all fairness both parties do the slam the president in power if he is not of ur party, the dems passed laws that i think george bush senior would veto before his loss in his first term, , to make him look bad, politics is not a pretty sight. u cant change it, the ppl voted, and will get what the majority wants, which is not as it seems the democratic agenda. what u want and what happens will be 2 seperate things, u have to be realistic.. as i said the best thing would be gridlock... but obama is in his last 2 years, the next president will be republican, just wait and see, its not what i want but what will be,

i think u are talking about the younger bush, but his dad, the dems would pass things like higher minimum wages, maybe not that but u get my drift, and bush senior would veto it and make him look bad to the lower and maybe middle class, close to election time.. and other laws they passed i dont remember them all but i remember them passing things they knew he would veto, and clinton won, im just using this as an example of things they all do, jeff sessions has a job as long as he wants one, and so does richard shelby, they dont really even have to advertise hardly, the vast majority of alabamian likes the way sessions votes .. this is a very conservative state. i have said this over and over, we have a republican Governor and senators and my house representative, is republican, he goes in easy, ppl here like the way republicans vote, u hardly ever see a democrate sticker on a car, and u will never get rid of mitch the ppl of KY like him, even if u dont. but this is all i will say on the matter , i am repeating this to much, nothing will change here, the ppl like what they have, and macain carried the state of alabama. just get use to the same ole shit, because its coming, to a theater near u, lol.. my last word, sit back and see what happens. it will be interesting how obama handles a republican house and almost a republican senate, again i will not address this issue again, i will watch what happens, maybe i have a different perspective, because like most all southern states obama here is not popular at all, this is not my opinion, but the majority's opinion.. he will not carry the centralist vote next election, he will loose in 2 years, but we shall see, im done on this issue,

well Whatever rosco if your state is not willing to change that is sad because things will not improve if one is not willing to improve it, I know your state can't be doing well no state is, as far as ky liking Mitch no I don't think ,they do,I think most of people in your state and mine, are habitual people they don't want to take time to learn and study something that will improve us~ I am ashamed of my state for voting the same kind of people in that do nothing for our state, Change is good` we need it~now I am through, except to say Fun is not what I think of when elections occur or when conflict will happen..when things improve then it is fun time.no I will not just sit back~ I will continue to write letters make phone calls as I have done to mitchs office and boehners they were not happy campers when I got through with them, both mitch and boehner are arrogant Sob's so is sessions and shelby

this is not me talking , u know my thoughts, but the ppl here in my state did not like the things obama got passed, as i told u they are conservative, its not sad to them, they like what they have in sessions and shelby, , they think obama has not helped the economy, actually the ppl blame obama for it, and the debt he has ran up, thats why the way ppl vote here will not change, they are conservatives, plain and simple. and it seems the country is going the same way, ok i will hush, lol,,
