An online campaign is gaining notoriety for its unusual message -- Deport the Statue of Liberty?

The group that wants to deport the Statue of Liberty claims Lady Liberty is an undocumented immigrant from France!

Legals for the Preservation of American Culture is trying to drum up support for this unusual campaign.

The video starts with Lady Liberty going into the immigration office in New York City, and her encounter with an immigration agent.

The video, which has appeared on YouTube, is sparking a lot of conversation.

Both it and the campaign, all a spoof produced for the organization Breakthrough, waims to "break through" the immigration debate with humor.

While some have been offended, others on Twitter get the joke.

How an immigrant saved the Statue of Liberty

It's interesting to note that the Statue of Liberty may not have existed today without the help of an immigrant.

According to the National Park Service, when the statue arrived in pieces in 1885, there was not enough money to afford a pedestal for it. No one was interested in paying for it at the time.

So Joseph Pulitzer, a Hungarian-born immigrant who ran The World newspaper in New York City, launched a campaign attacking not only the rich, but also the general masses, for not supporting this gift from "the whole people of France to the whole people of America."

In the end, his campaign collected over $100,000 from 120,000 people across the country. Many gave less than a dollar.

My thoughts,

I always wondered why we had something that represents the United States in such a profound way made and designed from another country, and France of all places, the country that can't stand us.

Well the feelings mutual, I'd love to see us take the statue of liberty down and replace it with one designed and made right here in the good ol USA.

We should give the statue of liberty to France so they could replace that ugly Eiffel Tower with it, we'd be doing them a favor.

Yes sort of, it depends in what context you address immigrants, For example, if you said George Bushes polices on immigration stinks that would fall under the "political" umbrella, but go ahead anyway if you want.

Well I say lets knock it over on its side into the New York Harbor and build a new one made by us. I don't appreciate the French giving us the statue of liberty, they just wanted to put there mark on this land. We need a new Statue of Liberty, a better one made by the USA. We need one that has nothing to do with the French, no involvement with them whatsoever.

They wouldn't let us fly our planes over their precious country when we were on our way to bomb that raghead Qaddafi. That was some gratitude after we saved their snail eating asses during WWII when they lay down like sheep for Hitler.

People talk about the French resistance. That was a myth. There was no French resistance. Those bastards were manufacturing more stuff for the Nazi war effort than any other occupied territory. The French actually became the number one producer of goods for the Nazi's.

French have never been a true friend, what you stated Tyler is correct. As far as immigration goes, yes we all probably are of some other nationality except for native americans, but can we honestly afford 11-13 million illegals to be given a free pass to leach the system, over crowd the medical facilities and grab up jobs because they work cheap. Turn them around send them back across the border and let them do things the right way. As it is now illegals are taking education money away from those who earned it legally. If the spinless gutlesss wonders in Washington don't act soon English will be the second language and it will be tacos for everyone. At least Napalitano is finally leaving ,California deserves her good riddance.

When I called the SSA office the other day, I was told (by a recording) "If you wish to use english, press 1"

WHAT??? What language WOULD I be using? English is an option?

Allow me to clarify. There was no "press 1 for english,2 for espanol",etc.

OK,OK, I'm being picky.But the American people need to shake their heads and dispel the cobwebs.Yes,we need these immigrants,but a nation without borders is a territory.

I will admit to an unabashed bias.I love the Mexican people.I fell in love with them the first time I went there and that profound love and respect has only been strengthened with every subsequent visit. I can say (with some possibly,unearned hubris) that their economic travails are of their own making.This is not an excuse,but it is tough to expect ANY people to flourish in our shadow.

I'm reminded of when,in a hotel in Progresso,while casually drunk,seeing an old man and a small kid laying tiles at their new tourista dock.On a Sunday.I'm reminded of a small girl giving me a dirty look when I offered to make up the change at a store counter when she was short of money.I'm reminded of a young feller showing my bro and me how they were casting religious medallions,using melted tin, in impressions they had made in the DIRT!

Napolitano is a two-faced dirt-bag and has disgraced her native state of,I believe, New Mexico. It doesn't matter.

I spent two weeks in Mexico in 2000.the most gracious polite people I have ever met, they work very hard. across the street,at a far angle a Mexican family lives there. I was working in my yard, and their young son about 12 came up and ask me ,senorita is there anything I can help you with, you work everyday in this yard, I immediately put him to work. with pay of course.he had that flower bed in tip top shape in about an hour~ a lost faster than I could do it :)

I firmly say send them back, do not reward them for breaking the law and let them do it the right way, this gov. is kissing to much ass and to cowardly to stand up for TRUE americans. We can't take care of our own, why in the world do we want a bunch of illegals, job grabbing, pushing drugs and multiplying like rabbits to have anchor babies. Sad events going on. At least I have had the pleasure of running off illegals on my job site.

You know that you are dear to me but I can't believe you are saying "send them back"

The California cornucopia of fruits and vegetables would immediately collapse.Food prices would skyrocket.etc. Just to make a point? And WHO would do their work that they do?

When I was on that UK visit,I noticed that their minimum wage was about  $10.00 per hour and they had 5% unemployment. What were they doing right and what are we doing wrong? I don't know.

If we were to raise our min wage to $10, would that draw more people into the workforce? Would that negate the secret conservative protocol to hire illegals and base pricing on that cheap labor? Would that reduce the 20%+ unemployment rate among young black people?

The illegals have big families because they are almost exclusively Catholic. Their babies are "anchor babies" because of constitutional law. Their participation in social programs is no higher than our black "true" Americans. Their involvement in crime is NOT significantly higher than average.It is difficult to reconcile your statement that they are "job grabbing" (working) with your thesis that they are a burden to the community at large.

Our first principle should be to work if you can,not pay people unemp. checks for 2 years NOT to work.

We both know that there will NEVER be a mass deportation of 12 million people and insisting on that process simply keeps the unacceptable status quo.

Next time a hurricane strikes in your area watch the Mexicans coming in by the bus load, they are well organized and always have a big boss with them to just drop them off and pick them up, they are put into motel rooms sometimes 10 to a room. They walk the streets at night and will steal from a job site in a heart beat...Been there done that..After Katrina they looked like ants crawling everywhere. You can't tell me a legal american won't work the fields to support a family, or do labor. When I roll into a town with a crew I'll have hundreds of legals looking for work and twice that many of illegals who have been dropped off.
I agree they will never deport them and as long as they cross over so will the drugs, proven fact.
