Republicans: Obama's Budget Plan Adds Up to More Taxes
Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty said Saturday that President Obama has talked about tax relief, but his budget suggests he'll be raising taxes.

A possible White House contender in 2012 said in the GOP's Saturday address that President Obama and the Democrats who run Congress should lower taxes and hold down spending.

"Let hardworking American families keep more of what they earn by cutting taxes and reining in spending," said Gov. Tim Pawlenty, R-Minn. "It's just common sense."

Obama's Democratic allies in Congress have embraced providing health care to the uninsured, boosting education and promoting clean energy. But they've had differing views on how to find billions of dollars to finance the president's agenda without further exploding the deficit.

Pawlenty said Democratic president's budget will require higher taxes and unfairly loads debt onto future generations. Pawlenty also said Obama has talked about tax relief, but his budget suggests he'll be raising taxes.

"I thought President Obama's proposal to eliminate capital gains taxes for small businesses was a pretty good idea. And his pledge to lower taxes for middle-class Americans was something Republicans wholeheartedly supported," Pawlenty said. "But the budget that Congress is considering doesn't provide that tax relief."

Pawlenty said the administration is not eliminating capital gains taxes for small businesses immediately so they can create jobs now but "keeps those taxes high until after Obama's term in office."

"The federal government should keep a lid on taxes, control government spending and borrow less -- rather than increase the size and scope of the federal government so much that Washington is guaranteeing future tax increases," Pawlenty said, referring to Obama's $3.6 trillion budget proposal.

Pawlenty said his anti-tax message would be welcomed with the approach of the April 15 tax deadline.

(Nothing being done now has anything to do with common sense. The notion that the Dems are going to add at least $3 trillion to our debt AND not raise taxes AND reduce the deficit is only believed by idiots. They are ridiculous lies soon to be exposed. And that IS common sense.)

Not to sure how taxing fuel, cigarettes , groceries and most of the mainstays of middle -america is helping. To tax the rich will decrease the taxable donations to many very deserving organizations. Three Trillion.......mighty big number to have to over come, and I just don't see it happening with Obama's uncontroled spending and billions of WASTED monies already. But the money machines keep rolling printing worthless bills, and nothing to back them up. Now he is calling for more money for the war, keeping troops longer than promised...just the beginning of a long four years of deceit.

I am 100% for self preservation.......I see my groceries going sky high, gas climbing up, a simple trip to the store is no less than 100.00 now days, my utilities are steady going up, so where is the break ? If the cig. tax is for childrens health programs what happens to them when people are forced to quit, no more revenue, BUT, the money will come from somewhere...aka...more taxes. Shriners hosp. is closing 6 much needed facilities, how is this helping children ??

Don't care how any of them refer to themselves, all I see is Obama out of control spending..spending ..spending and nothing even remotely trying to turn around, but continuing to get worse...Even his overseas trip was not the big success he pushed for, coming away with very little support or funding.

Obama didn't succeed if you read the news reports , here we go again...BUSH...BUSH...BUSH... is Bush giving the banks millions to give CEO'S nice bonuses , or the big car manufactures to defy him and continue to produce less than thrifty cars, did Bush slice our national defense system, no the man during his terms was faced with radical rag heads attacking our homeland and to retaliate he went to war to stop these terrorist dogs in their tracks, and now it would seem Obama is following his lead, maybe Bush wasn't so wrong after all.

No,no, dammit,no. Bush intiated and pushed the TARP plan to avoid the immediate failure of many banks and investment groups holding hundreds of billions in retirement funds and public investment funds. Ugly, but necessary. The incredible, wasteful, and non-stimulating stimulus bills are all Obama's and Pelosi's. They are designed to control the economy. It is purely a political effort and are only slightly connected to any real economic recovery. The Dems have done nothing to stabilize the banking industry,it has all been "spend.spend,spend".

You,as usual, have no conception of what is happening. Bush increased spending to execute a war. His Congress increased spending by some percentage points. Obama's Congress has doubled the deficit in one year. An unprecedented increase that cannot be paid back in one generation. And who started it? Your Democratic leaders Christopher Dodd and Barney Frank. Anyone with half a brain knows that this economic debacle started with the collapsing housing industry. How did Bush cause THAT??? You have NO idea what happened and don't care. Bush did it,and that's the total limit of anything you know or will ever know.I wished Obama success in his endeavors until he and Pelosi made it clear: They are NOT interested in seeing the economy recover. If they were, they wouldn't ram this incredible debt down the taxpayer's throat. They are interested in controlling this economy to suit Pelosi's and Reid's social welfare vision of America and they need a failing economy as an excuse. At that, I certainly hope they fail. This economy will recover; it always does. But with this huge debt to pay, it will take decades, not a few years.
