(1.) I wasn't born anywhere near the water but we moved to the Charleston area in 1957 and I keep coming back. I'm a very poor swimmer but I love the ocean and deep, bad water. Out there, one recognizes the omnipotence of the sea,and is quick to offer help in an emergency but slow to act rashly. Waiting for the right moment in this case of pracy paid off big time. (2.) Here's what the ambassador ro Morroco wrote about the Barbary pirates in 1784 (it will sound familiar) Wiki: "It was written in their Koran, that all nations which had not acknowledged the Prophet were sinners, whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to plunder and enslave; and that every muslim who was slain in this warfare was sure to go to paradise. He said, also, that the man who was the first to board a vessel had one slave over and above his share, and that when they sprang to the deck of an enemy's ship, every sailor held a dagger in each hand and a third in his mouth; which usually struck such terror into the foe that they cried out for quarter at once.". I think the international news media will be slow to expose these pirates as the muslim fanatics they are,but one should look a little deeper. (3) The captured pirate will be described in our press as a "confused youth out on a lark" more than likely, but he is no more innocent of crime than any bomb thrower. He should be tried and executed for piracy upon the high seas. (4) Our liberals will demand that we "help the Somalians regain control of their country". No,we should not. We should "help" those who travel on the ocean travel safely. And we should do that the same way this country did early in the 19th. century. We should hunt these pirates down and destroy them. Let those who reamsin alive learn whatever lesson they will learn and act accordingly. (4.) Has anyone here seen the new military standard sniper rifle? More cannon than rifle, it fires a .50 caliber projectile accuratly at 1000 meters. It requires a 2 man team. It uses a "floating barrel" and aiming system who's technology escapes me but I've seen demonstration films. If it hits a human anywhere on their person, that person is immediately dead. (Etc.) These acts of piracy,in my opinion, are just another expression of muslim barbarism and lawlessness. Another tentacle on an evil animal out to destroy all that is civilized. "Peaceful religion" my ass. Frankly, I hope the piracy will end peacefully and quickly. But we know better. I expect (Yes,Gypsy,I am SPECULATING) that the pirates will, and actually have, declare(d) war on the USA. Good. That will be all the excuse needed to engage and hinder them and show, yet again, that the euro tradition of appeasing them results in just more piracy.

Roscoe: I've never heard of "Paradise Isle" but there is a Hampton Inn over in Mount Pleasant at the connector to the Isle Of Palms. That's where we lived in 1957 when we first got to town. Bush couldn't have ditched a jet; he was a deserter or AWOL, remember? How politically incorrect you is! When we first moved to MP, 51 years ago, we rented a big house next to a place called "Pirates Cove" It was right on the river and was built around 1780. We went through the place at the caretaker's invite/ (it wasn't public) The place was so old,the floors were nailed down with wooden pegs. There was one room I remember that was full of model ships. Huge things made outta wood and brass. There was one small one made outta hammered silver and pewter. The place was landscaped with arbors and a faux moat. Some developer bulldozed it and put in condos. Oh well.

I think those who are sniping at Obama for keeping quiet about what was being done are wrong. He did what he needed to do and he did it right. The Somali warlord's threat to kill Americans is declaration enough for me.
