Millionaire Filmmaker Michael Moore: ‘Capitalism Did Nothing For Me’

(CNSNews.com) -- Documentary film director Michael Moore, who has become a millionaire thanks to the profits from his movies, told CNSNews.com that “capitalism did nothing” for him.

CNSNews.com spoke with Moore on the red carpet at the Uptown Theatre in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday night before the premiere of his upcoming documentary, “Capitalism: A Love Story."

CNSNews.com asked: “Critics may say, when they see this movie, Michael Moore has amassed a fortune of over $50 million, some have said and –”

Moore said: “Really? Are you kidding me? Seriously? Wow. Where did it go?”

CNSNews.com then asked Moore: “Critics would say he’s [Moore] been very successful under a capitalist system. How would you justify making a movie where you paint capitalism as evil?”

Moore said: “Well, capitalism did nothing for me, starting with my first film.”

“You know, I had to pretty much beg, borrow and steal,” he said. “The system is not set up to help somebody from the working class make a movie like this and get the truth out there.”

“In fact, in Fahrenheit 9/11 if you remember, capitalism, the Disney Corporation, tried to kill that film--tried to make it so that people couldn’t see it,” said Moore. “My book Stupid White Men--Harper Collins tried to kill that book so that people couldn’t see it. It's only because I put the light of day on it and told people what was going on did people get the chance to see these things.”

According to Fortune Magazine, Moore’s films have grossed over $300 million worldwide. His highest grossing film was “Fahrenheit 9/11,” which critiques the Bush administration’s handling of the war in Iraq and earned over $200 million worldwide.

first i dont have an opinion on moore, i probably agree and disagree with some of his
ideas, i simply dont know alot about him, and dont care, what i am repeating as i did on occasion is the fact that if u have an idea ppl will follow , just as conservative do also , ppl and money will follow..i am surprised he has made as much money as he has, i remember him when he was a nobody, thats why i am surprised he has done financially as well as he has, just taking, as u can tell and i have said, i probably have been more conservative on issues, but not all , but i still consider my self a centralist, i dont just agree with the conservatives or believe them without studying them, i use to watch fox, all the time, but i cant watch beck or hannity, i have to have an opposing view like colmes us to be on hannity, to watch a show, i know hannity is a good person, but he talks over ppl and interrupts. sometimes i wonder if its all about ratings and money. of course the way i work i see none of the shows anyway, i do like bill oreilly,, and will watch when i get the chance, i do admire i think all the orielly stuff that is sold online , it goes to charity,, take care.i think last time i saw ratings he still is the big dog in town, but that may change,

Bill O'Reilly and other shows like his are in it for ratings. I believe if you spent some time with these guys (off camera) you might find they don't really believe half of what they say. They are "Entertainers", I can't say it anymore clearer than that, If you want to believe their heart is in every word they say thats your situation, but I don't buy it entirely, I know they are juicing it up for ratings, expressing opinion for the sake of argument, and ratings.

The president of these United States makes comments for ratings, why shouldn't we believe a talk show host would do the same? To think talk show hosts are above it all is naive.

as i have said for many years or decades, " controversy sells" limbaugh learned this decades ago,, before clinton was even elected as i have said he mostly attacked feminist , calling then feminazies, and the tree hugger, i remember before clinton for a time frame example, when he did the tree hugger thing he had a chain saw sound running, lol, but i still say clinton made huge amounts of money for him back then.. clinton was a god sent present to limbaugh as far as money , his clinton books sold and he grew more popular, just as he continues to do, take care , im late, see yall later,

"Bill O'Reilly and other shows like his are in it for ratings. I believe if you spent some time with these guys (off camera) you might find they don't really believe half of what they say." (What would make you say that? O'Reilly has been saying the same things for 11 years and they match what he was saying for the years he was on that other show he did previously. You say he actually lies more than half the time? Really?) "They are "Entertainers", I can't say it anymore clearer than that," (You mean like Howard Stern is?) "If you want to believe their heart is in every word they say thats your situation, but I don't buy it entirely..." (You mean you don't believe them "less than entirely" or less than "half the tiime"? There's a big difference.) "I know they are juicing it up for ratings, expressing opinion for the sake of argument, and ratings." (In what ways,in your opinion, are they "juicing it up"? Are they lying? Or are they.......what? Isn't it their job to offer opposing and confluent views on a variety of subjects? I don't get it. Are you saying that they, all of them, have been saying the same consistent lies for years?)

"The president of these United States makes comments for ratings, why shouldn't we believe a talk show host would do the same? To think talk show hosts are above it all is naive." (I can't agree with this at all. I think this and all previous presidents have made statements to advance their political agendas. I don't think that activity is rated by Nielson. I'm not picking at yer words,Tyler, I'm just at a loss as to exactly what yer saying. Are you saying the FOX guys and gals are liars?)

No Man, I wasn't even thinking about Fox. I'm only expressing my opinion in my usual irrational way.

I'm going to post a music video now, and turn the music up really loud, I know you can understand that frame of mind, that's the one I'm in right now...
