You may enjoy the end of my braying, squalling, and whining about Obamacare. The basic tenets of the Senate bill that passed today are: 1. We must buy insurance or pay a fine of up to $1900 per family. (I don't know how this will affect me. I have Medicare , part A. If I am forced to buy part B, I won't like it,but sooner or later I will need it.) 2. Subsidies will be provided for famiies with an income of less than $88,000/year (Now yer talkin') 3. Prohibit denial of coverage for pre-existing conditions. (A big consideration for me. Hell, I AM a pre-existing condition) These are purely personal points of view but as I said before, THOSE should be my and your first consideration. I still think the bill,in total, will lead to a finacial disaster. I still think the Congress should drop the whole idea. I still think the American people will be outraged when they start getting taxed and fee'ed on this with no immediate coverage. And I think stealing (now) $400 billion in coverages for Medicare recipients is dishonorable and shortsighted.

Reform And Medicare

What does health care reform mean for Medicare? It means protecting benefits, investing in Medicare to keep it strong for the future and lower costs for prescription drugs.

Here are five ways that health care reform will protect and improve Medicare:

1. Maintain & Improve Benefits
Health Care Reform Maintains and Improves Your Medicare Benefits.

2. Lower Prescription Drug Costs
Reform Would Lower Prescription Drug Costs

3. Invest In Medicare To Keep It Strong
Health Care Reform Would Invest in Medicare to Keep it Strong for the Future

4. Prevent Waste
Health Care Reform Would Prevent Medicare Waste

5. Enhance Care
Health Care Reform Would Reward Quality Treatment and Enhance Care

Health Care Reform Maintains and Improves Your Medicare Benefits

Reform will strengthen many Medicare benefits. As Reuters recently reported, “all bills include provisions to improve quality of health care in the Medicare program for the elderly.”

Factcheck.org calls the idea that reform will cut Medicare benefits “outright false.”

FamiliesUSA, AARP, Medicare Rights Center, Reuters and Washington Post have all reinforced that analysis and reported that health care reform would not limit Medicare benefits.

Read the facts

* FactCheck.org: Claim of Benefit Cuts is Outright False. The nonpartisan Web site writes, “The claim that Obama and Congress are cutting seniors’ Medicare benefits to pay for the health care overhaul is outright false, though that doesn’t keep it from being repeated ad infinitum. The truth is that the pending House bill extracts $500 billion from projected Medicare spending over 10 years, as scored by the Congressional Budget Office, by doing such things as trimming projected increases in the program’s payments for medical services, not including physicians. Increases in other areas, such as payments to doctors, bring the net savings down to less than half that amount. But none of the predicted savings — or cuts, depending on one’s perspective — come from reducing current or future benefits for seniors. [FactCheck.org, 8/14/2009]

* FamiliesUSA Says “Reform does not limit Medicare beneficiaries’ access to their doctors – it increases it.” In a fact sheet titled “Setting the Record Straight on Medicare, the organization writes “Health reform does not limit Medicare beneficiaries’ access to their doctors— it increases it. None of the bills places any limits on access to doctors. Instead, access to doctors should improve under health reform because it will prevent a scheduled cut in payments to physicians. [Setting the Record Straight on Medicare, FamiliesUSA, Accessed 8/17/09]

* Reuters: House Legislation Would Improve Quality of Medicare. The newswire reported in August 2009 that, “All bills include provisions to improve quality of health care in the Medicare program for the elderly. Payments to be designed to encourage quality, not quantity of services.” [Reuters, 8/14/2009]

NOTE: Legislation is still being finalized in Congress. These links are provided to give an accurate snapshot of what is being discussed in Washington.

* Senate Finance Committee Framework for Health Care Reform
* White House Plan for Health Care Reform

2.
Reform Would Lower Prescription Drug Costs

Health care reform means lower prescription drug costs for seniors. Under legislation moving through Congress, seniors would receive up to a 50 percent discount on brand name drugs once they reached the so-called “donut hole."

Read the facts

* Agreement with Obama Administration and Senate Finance Committee Means Pharmaceutical Companies Agree to Reduce Donut Hole As Part of Health Reform. On Aug. 11, 2009, Kaiser Health News reported: “In a deal with the White House and the Senate Finance Committee, the drug industry has agreed to put up about $80 billion to help finance the expansion of health coverage… In the deal, the drug industry pledged to sell brand-name drugs for half price to senior citizens when they hit the gap or ‘donut hole’ in their Medicare Part D benefit. In the coverage gap, seniors have to pay the full cost of drugs on their own. The discount would start soon after the health overhaul bill is approved.” [Kaiser Health News, 8/11/2009]

* AARP: Health Care Reform Would Lower Drug Costs for Medicare. The AARP states: “For people in Medicare, health care reform is about lowering prescription drug costs for people in the ‘donut hole,’ keeping the doctor of your choice, improving the quality of care and eliminating billions in waste that is causing poor care and medical errors.” [AARP, accessed 8/18/2009]

3. Health Care Reform Would Invest in Medicare to Keep it Strong for the Future

According to the Washington Post, health care reform would “extend the life of the Medicare Trust Fund by five years.” This investment would put the program in a better place financially and would ensure that the program grows stronger in the future.

Read the facts

* Washington Post: Reform Strengthens the Medicare Trust Fund, Ensuring Benefits Can Continue. A Washington Post fact sheet on reform states that, “Comprehensive health-care legislation approved by three House committees includes changes to the Medicare program for 45 million elderly and disabled people. The bills extend the life of the Medicare Trust Fund by five years.” [Washington Post, 8/9/09]

* Medicare Rights Center: “Health Reform Strengthens Medicare’s Financial Outlook.” The non-partisan Medicare Rights Center reports that HR 3200 adds five years to the life of Medicare’s Hospital Insurance Trust Fund, which is now predicted to run out of money in 2017. The bill strengthens Medicare’s finances, primarily by reducing annual increases in payments to hospitals, nursing homes and home health agencies, and by bringing subsidies to Medicare private health plans in line with costs under Original Medicare.” [Medicare Rights Center, accessed 8/18/2009]

* Wall Street Journal: With no action, Medicare Trust Fund Will Be Insolvent in a Decade. In May 2009, the Wall Street Journal reported that under the current system, the Medicare Trust Fund for hospital care would be depleted in 2017. [Wall Street Journal, 5/13/2009]

4. Health Care Reform Would Prevent Medicare Waste

Under health care reform, Medicare would have new tools to combat waste.

Read the facts

* House Bill Adds $100 Million to Fight Fraud and Assure Quality Care from Health Providers. The House bill dedicates “an additional $100,000,000” to fight fraud and abuse. [HR 3200]

* House Bill Increases Accountability, Standard of Care for Hospice Facilities. The House bill increases safeguards for patients at hospice facilities, stating that if, "a hospice program that is certified for participation under this title has demonstrated a substandard quality of care and failed to meet such other requirements as the Secretary may find necessary in the interest of the health and safety of the individuals who are provided care and services by the agency or organization involved and determines that the deficiencies involved immediately jeopardize the health and safety of the individuals to whom the program furnishes items and services,” then it will be penalized. The bill adds: “If, after such a period of intermediate sanctions, the program is still not in compliance with such requirements, the Secretary shall terminate the certification of the program.” [HR 3200]

* AARP: All Reform Plans Seek to Cut Fraud. The seniors’ bulletin writes, “It’s true [that reform proposals] all seek to save billions from Medicare costs — not by cutting benefits, ... [but by taking measures including] reducing waste and fraud.” [AARP Bulletin Today, 8/14/2009]

5. Health Care Reform Would Reward Quality Treatment and Enhance Care

Health care reform would modernize and improve Medicare. According to the Medicare Rights Center, it “boosts Medicare payments for consultations with primary care doctors and specialists, and provides bonuses to primary care doctors. The bill invests over $200 billion in Medicare payments to doctors, and provides additional payments to doctors who join Accountable Care Organizations that will coordinate care by different specialists and improve the health of their patients..” For Medicare recipients, that means assurance that the care they are receiving is the care they need.

Read the facts

* Medicare Rights Center Says Health Reform Legislation Improves Quality of Care in Medicare. In a fact sheet on Medicare and reform, the non-partisan group writes, “boosts Medicare payments for consultations with primary care doctors and specialists, and provides bonuses to primary care doctors. The bill invests over $200 billion in Medicare payments to doctors, and provides additional payments to doctors who join Accountable Care Organizations that will coordinate care by different specialists and improve the health of their patients. [Medicare Rights Center, accessed 8/18/2009]

* AARP: Reform Will Reward Providers for Quality of Care. On Aug. 14, 2009, the AARP Bulletin Today reported that, “all [reform proposals] seek to save billions from Medicare costs — not by cutting benefits, but by setting up new ways to pay doctors more fairly and to reward providers for quality of care instead of (as now) paying them a fee for each separate service; reducing waste and fraud; and reducing preventable hospital readmissions.” [AARP Bulletin Today, 8/14/2009]

* Arizona Republic: “New Health Idea Puts Emphasis on Quality Care.” On July 31, 2009, the Arizona Republic reported that in Arizona the IBM-United Health Care program — which is included in HR 3200 — rewards doctors based on the quality of care rather than its quantity. The Republic reported that IBM decided to work with United HealthCare on the program because they believed it would reduce costs in the long run. Dr. Paul Grundy, IBM's director of health care, said: “We are pretty unhappy with the care we buy. What we would really like to see is increased value. Hopefully costs will go down, but at the end of the day, we would like to get more value for the dollars we spend." [Arizona Republic, 7/31/2009]

Well, actually, that wasn't a compliment really, but rather an observation of your unwillingness to say your own thoughts on the subject, even after you said "my words" it was very disappointing not much was after that, frankly, there wasn't much there for you to even mention your words. Your words about you think it was "interesting reading" is not much of a statement to the material.

But whatever... Razz

Of course, this post of yours almost required me to read "gypsy's", and I did, and I was offensed by it. So I will respond: I didn't "almost aplologize" to anygoddamnbody. OBVIOUSLY, I was being humorous. It's your site Tyler, and you certainly are better at it than I ever was,but don't expect her to post anything but illiterate gibberish (her words) and this kinda propaganda. It's all she has. Perhaps your notes will remind her that I don't comment on her posts and expect het to not personally comment on mine.

Try to make a distinction on who is ignoring you and act accordingly, I can't and won't suggest to anyone about who has who on ignore, its not my place or my policy on this forum, and quite frankly I can't tell, I can't read that info, but if you think someone does have you on ignore, you suspect it and have every reason to believe its true, don't reply to their posts if they are not replying to yours.

That's it.

Delete away, senor. Actually, if I post a buncha facts someone questions, I should expect someone who questions those facts to post an alternate set of "facts". But most here know that I ccp little. I offer my opinions mostly and assume you guys know that if I post something,I believe it. I shouldn't admit this, but I rarely wade through long ccp's. Too lazy, and anyway, I'm always 100% right, right?

u posted on 5 different committee bills, the one today, is totally different, post on the one that passed today in the senate, they all are different, but the baucus bill in the senate is the main one, what u posted on probably will never see the light of day, . besides even the one today will be changed, its not even the bill as of now, the whole senate will wind up voting on,. as was said on tv actually this today is the real beginning, not the end, ,,

i think in fact the bill today 10/13 /09 may cut medicare or medicaid.,this is the newest bill . it has no public option so the libs are pissed but it leans toward the moderates..the unions are against it, because it taxes their highend policys, but i will need to read it, but on the tv news, several nursing home owners said the senate finance bill that passed today will put them out of business, cnn now has a show on about it, and said u will see nothing till the first of the year at the earliest, even olympia snowe voted for it just so it would continue so she can see how it changes and if it can get her final vote when there is a full senate bill, what u posted is old news, actually it all is old new, till the final bill is cast out of the house and senate conference committee . which will be a long time off, like first of the year,

This is not open for debate, don't directly reply to someones post you suspect has you on ignore. (i.e. not replying to your posts, not answering PMs..etc)... clear signals they have you on ignore. There are many ways to come to that conclusion that they have you on ignore.
