Americans trust President Obama the most among the players in shaping health care reform, with 55 percent putting their money on him, while 48 percent say they trust congressional Democrats and 37 percent trust congressional Republicans, according to a USA Today/Gallup poll conducted Oct. 16-19.
Broken down further, 23 percent trust Obama a great deal, 10 percent trust the Democrats a great deal and 4 percent trust the Republicans. (The other categories were "a fair amount," "not much" and "not at all.") About a quarter of those polled put themselves in the "not at all" camp for each of the three.
Eighty-one percent of Democrats trust their own party on Capitol Hill compared to 61 percent of Republicans who trust GOP lawmakers.
