We're have mashed potatoes and green beans with it. I got to get ready to cook here in a few hours, turn my pc off for awhile.

I despise football and any sport that involves the senseless and useless chasing after a damn ball.My version of a perfect ball game of any sort would include a mass terror attack so egregious and murderous that all ball games would be banned forever. Harrumph.

The only true sports are boxing and all sports that involve cars or any machinery. i.e.,any sport that offers the immediate and spectacular death or severe injury of the participants (including the spectatators).

Just saying.

Feelin bloody today moon? haha

When I think of a "sport" I think of an activity that involves some physical athletic capability, that is mastered with practice skill and talent, an activity involving physical exertion. Sitting behind a car hardly fits that description, in fact I often challenged the idea that auto racing was considered a sport at all, its more of a machine engineering showcase. The individual sitting behind wheel that wins could've just as easily lost had he blown a tire, would that mean he needs to practice some more if he lost, or was he just outclassed? Is he lacking talent in comparison to the driver that won? No, it means he had some bad luck that day, nothing more, nothing less. Nothing sporty about luck, you might as well call the game "Wheel of Fortune" a sport.

I agree Tyler..I have never understood a sport, where cars go around in circles, over and over.
Boring
I do love horse racing, that is animal not machine..

I always feel "bloody". The skill and reactivity needed to steer and control a vehicle moving at 200+ mph for hours in 130F heat definitely strain the mind and physique, wouldn't you all agree? And since the stringent and vigorously enforced standards result in virtually mechanically identical vehicles, the winner is the best driver,is he/she not? And if a new design features, such as disc brakes, safety belts, fuel injection systems, etc.,produce innovations that save many lives and increase efficiencies throughout the automotive industry, can't we say that racing produces engineering excellence? Does basketball? Golf? What do improved $100 sneakers do for YOU??? And a blown tire often kills the driver and many others if the driver doesn't skillfully recover control of the car. Does a missed hoop shot? A bad slice? Hmmmm?

Chasing after rubber balls is for kids and is no more necessary or productive than yoyo's or marbles.

Horse racing is a true sport and I never said or implied that it wasn't. So nonny nonny boo boo.

The objective of a sport is not defined by how it severs mankind, its designed with rules that participants have to abide by and the person that can achieve the objective of the game wins. Sports has never been about what it can do for you, its about winning.

Yes I agree auto racing can strain the mind and physique, but lets face it without the car doing what it does there is no race. The car is everything, in the future I suspect the race will be done with remote controls so no one get injured. Simply remove the driver problem solved.

I have no problem with anything I've read here;I just get a little pissed when I want to see the news and weather at 6 on Sundays and it is ALWAYS pre-empted by a game of some sort.Boxing always seemed to be a "pure" sport in that you have a one on one confrontation between one highly skilled athlete and another.I know that team sports isn't about serving humanity or even producing better people, but it's purpose escapes me.I know,I know,it's entertaining....but....why?

I hear ya, well I think originally sports purpose was for entertainment for both the participants and the spectators, but as usual we've figured out a way to turn a buck on it. Now for some its mostly about how much money you can make. For example in pro football I think when they (players) were young it was about having fun, they enjoyed the game and competition, then when they grew older and wiser they realize the potential money they could make doing it, then that becomes the main purpose for them. Obviously for the rest of us its for entertainment. I suppose some games that are not recognized as a "sport" such as "chess" are played for the same reasons. The term "sport" is identified with physical activity and athletic ability, whereas a game of chess is just called a game. Interesting that they both achieve the same results.

Sports for most people I think is an outlet to escape the monotonous repetition of day by day events. For some they like to gamble on it. I am in no way a sports fanatic, I rarely watch any sports anymore, only NFL football do I seem to watch on Sundays during the season, other than that my attention is mostly on the computer. I've grown to dislike television thru the years with all the commercials. I sometimes wonder why TV can't have an ad-blocker like we can have for our computers. Television leaves us very little control.

Exactly! My bro doesn't understand why I insist on having a DVR. He says that recording literally everything I intend to watch just so I can skip the ads ain't worth it. Well,it is to me. I get PISSED when I'm told the same damn thing over and over again. I hate Flo's guts, and if I could stomp, I would stomp that Geico lizard FLAT! I am not a mindless child to be indoctrinated into wanting anything or buying something just because it is so familiar to me.

I know I've become an old drudge, but I watch only news or documentaries. I can't think of one single entertainment show I have seen in many years. I believe that Cheers and Frasier were about the last.

I can't even watch sci-fi anymore. It always becomes a GD soap opera in space with the same CGI crap over and over.

HARRRRUMPH!

I know whatcha mean, ain't much on worth watching anymore except news, and I agree with the sci-fi movies now day, they are intent on having as many explosions as they can possibly fit in it, which becomes annoying and insane and totally missing the interesting part that a science fiction movie can be. They totally destroyed a potentially good movie with the new Star Trek, I seen the previews and its nothing but explosions. There are two new Star Trek movies out now all based from Kirk and Spocks time like the original series, they are movies from that era showing Kirk and Spock and the rest of the crew when they were young, and what happened during that time that we never saw in the TV series from the 60's. But like I said they destroyed a potentially good movie series with over-the-top explosions. I like sci-fi movies with a calm look at what could possibly be, delving deep into the problems that arise, not a take on a future war with other life-forms complete with ridiculous explosions every 5 minutes. And the way the ships maneuver so quickly around turns and junk is unpractical. Really kinda pisses me off how they try to be so action packed.

I think recording TV shows or movies to fast forward through the commercials is a great idea, I do that also, but I use an old vcr for the job, I don't have dvr but wish I had one, but the old vcr does the trick alright with decent quality in sp mode.

Check this short clip out analyzing some of the Star Trek movies that has been put out. That's the new Kirk and Spock on the right from the new movies I was talking about. The new Spock character is actually played very well and looks much like  Leonard Nimoy. I must say I was impressed with how the actor portrayed Spock, however not much footage in this video of the new movies I was talking about.

I've never been a "Trekkie", but I was definitely a sci-fi fan. The first Star Wars was a revelation to me.

I started losing faith in sci-fi movies with Hollywood's version of "Contact" by Carl Sagan. The book posited that mathematicians, when exploring the ultimate value of "pi",after calculating that value to millions of decimal places, are confronted with a series of 1's and 0's.A clear digital message that eventually leads to the design and construction of a time/space machine. "PI" is not determined by ever more accurate measurements of circles and their diameters, but is found using a quadratic equation that is in analytical geometry. It produces 3.141596.....,a seemingly infinite, and thus prime, number. It is a fundamental relationship in the physical world. To have manipulated it would have required godly powers or...maybe not.Sagan's book (Sagan was an atheist) suggested a level III super civilization accomplished this.

And there lies my bitch. The movie skipped over this "minor" question and focused on the female lead character's love life.I love Jodie Foster, but this movie was an obscure, pointless, putrid pot-boiler

Yep I been a Trekkie all my life, started watching Star Trek as a little boy glued to the TV in total awe.

Well, I liked Contact and I like Jodie Foster, regardless if the digital message was inaccurate, the more outstanding point to me was the possibility of other life or life after death which the movie seemed to compounded on. The mathematics of how the message was interpreted and received was beside the point to me, the idea of life after death in and of itself is outlandish enough, I don't need a mathematical accuracy to help me along in believing the story, that in no way helps its creditability, I already have my doubts going in.

Heres the Trailer:
