Are pop-up ads allowed on Google?

Google does not allow pop-up ads of any kind on our site. We find them annoying. So why do they occasionally appear when you search on Google? Here are a few possible explanations:

You may have encountered a squatter with an address similar to Google's. Occasionally, individuals will register domain names that are one letter off from a well-known URL in hopes of attracting those who make mistakes in their typing. Please be sure to enter into your browser and the pop-ups may go away. Or, if you are running Windows, just add the free Google Toolbar to your browser by visiting

Another possibility is that you visited a site while surfing, and that site launched pop-up windows in the background. These ads are known in the advertising industry as "pop-unders." Other web pages trigger pop-ups when a user leaves that site. When you came to Google, the windows may have become visible. Again, we do not condone this practice and do not allow it on Google.

If you have installed some free programs, especially music-sharing programs such as BearShare or AudioGalaxy, you may have installed other programs as well. These tiny "time bombs" can show pop-ups at random intervals or based on anything you type on a web page. A brief description of these programs can be found in these articles: and,1282,49960,00.html.

If you are experiencing pop-ups generated by one of these malicious programs, you may want to remove the pop-up program from your computer. One program that attempts to detect and to uninstall pop-up programs is available at We have no relationship with the individuals who created this software and cannot vouch for it ourselves.

If you feel you were deceived when you installed a program that creates pop-ups, you may want to take action. Still having trouble have found Playbrite in progs & deleted. (Terrible infection)

But spybot is having trouble deleting that IM FAKE TOOLBAR because it might still exist

In to find memory I do not Know.

I have to find certain HKEY's in Registry and delete.

I have Superspy & Malaware also.

No more pop-ups on your site Tyler but some in IYT and more appearing.

I have no idea what to tell you, I'm in no way an expert on ads or how to get rid of them. You have already done all I know to do. You might consider taking your computer to a computer expert and let them have a look at it.

Heres a good ad blocker for firefox:

I have just written to my Tech. (A Friend) asking for more help.

Will see him when he is free. He works at the Local Hospital during the day.

I shall just keep plodding along for answers.

Thanks for reply Tyler

All good learning for me.

I use Google Chrome.

ok I will tell you how my problems were corrected.

Yontoo a program that sets up Pop-ups on the Net downloaded into MY PROGRAMS. From a Trogen.

I deleted Yontoo
But my Tech had to go into the Registry and delete about 19 fragments from about 5 different files.

He backed up the Registry before he begun.

Other piggy backs I had were Malaware 2 Pup.Play Bryte
Looked on the Net to see what it was.

Mon was another. (Fun Moods?)

My superantispyware brought up Yontoo some time after...they took their time methinks.

I also had a FAKE Incredimail Toolbar...I had to reconize it and delete it. Spybot told me but could not deal with it because it was in the Memory.

So if anyone has a program they do not reconize try to look it up on the Net and see what it is.

I was going to tell you that you may have a trojan or of sorts. Though some pop ups get away with writing around the scripting files. OTher than that that is why we have inline advertisements and why they have become so popular. Pop ups have shrunk in popularity and inline ads have grown. Always be careful in what you open up on the inter web, if it seems to good to be true then it is. Only open up trusted sites, I know I have on google chrome where if the site has malicious items google will stop me and tell me it may be harmful so i back right up.

Hi Nextie

I had two Trogens..gone now.

They came through via a site I belong to for extras for my Paint Shop Prof.

I did not reconize the Program I downloaded from which looked German.

It was one of those sharing prog...for high downloads. I downloaded 56 Megs. The Trogens were hiding.

Other people belonging to the site must have copt it also.

I sometimes use Pando, but 4share might be suspect.

I am wiser now.
